The right of children and adolescents to safety and integrity in the use of social networks

Abstract

The right to safety and integrity of minors is enshrined in international, national, and local legislation. Furthermore, the dignity and priority of minors in cases of violence must be paramount in justice systems. This paper presents an analysis of cyberviolence directed at children and adolescents on social media. The research was conducted using a quantitative approach, employing legal research techniques such as exegetical analysis of legislation applicable to cyber justice. A validated instrument, the Cyberviolence Questionnaire, was used with a sample of 183 students. Informed consent was obtained from parents, and letters guaranteeing confidentiality and anonymity in the processing of personal data were issued. The Cronbach's alpha reliability statistic is 0.862, which meets the reliability threshold for exploratory research (0.6 or higher) and confirmatory studies (0.7–0.8). The hypothesis was confirmed, and one of the findings recognizes cyberviolence and other forms of violence as phenomena related to the violation of the right to integrity and security of secondary school students when using social media.
